Tropical Regions favor environmental conditions throughout the year, a higher diversity of vascular plants that create niches and microhabitats for fungi, and the presence of many ecotones. The diversity of macrofungi in tropical forests showed that the highest diversity in the Neotropics occurred in the Amazon Basin with Agaricomycetes. Macrofungi are defined here to include ascomycetes and basidiomycetes with large, easily observed spore-bearing structures that form above or below ground. Each coauthor either provided data on a particular taxonomic group of macrofungi or information on the macrofungi of .

Tropical mycology is attracting increasing interest, as the key role of fungi in tropical ecosystems and as pathogens becomes appreciated. This book is the first of two complementary volumes (Volume 2 covers Micromycetes) produced from papers given at the British Mycological Society's symposium held in Liverpool in April This comprehensive book emphasizes present research on macrofungi and its future prospects. It covers a wide range of topics, from morphological identification and molecular diversity to biotechnological approaches beneficial for industrial and medical fields.

Macrofungi can be found in several types of habitats, including tropical peatlands (Shuhada et al., ). Despite their ecological importance, little is known about macrofungal communities in tropical peat swamp forests. Species richness of tropical wood-inhabiting macrofungi provides support for species-energy theory. Schmit JP(1). macrofungi is the relationship with forest tree roots in the uptake of nutrients and water and in the protection of the tree roots from pathogenic fungi and nematodes. Macrofungi are fungal species that produce fruiting bodies visible to the naked eye. Most macrofungi are members of Basidiomycota, but some belong to Ascomycota. Basidiomycetous macrofungi, such as bracket fungi, mushrooms, and puffballs, play essential roles in.

In the tropical forests (Mengsong and Laos), fruiting of macrofungi started in the first two weeks of June, 3–5 weeks earlier than in the temperate forests, and ended in the first or second week of October, about 1–2 weeks later than in the temperate forests.
